How to Use a Front Tine Rototiller

    • 1). Start the rototiller either by flipping the "on" switch on an electric model or pulling the starter rope on a gasoline-powered model.

    • 2). Wheel the rototiller on its rear wheels to your starting point. Once in place, keep the rototiller balanced on its rear wheels. Squeeze the tine activation lever on the handle and the tines will begin to rotate.

    • 3). Lower the front tines down onto the ground. The tines' rotation will act like drive wheels and pull you along as you till the soil. This action makes it easy to guide the tiller along the path.

    • 4). Guide the rototiller, allowing it to break up the soil. Maneuver it between obstacles and travel along pathways, going back and forth for maximum tilling effectiveness. A rototiller will only break up dirt as deep as the tines are long, so if you need the soil broken up and tilled deeper, shut the tiller down once you have finished an area, then shovel the dirt off to the side. Repeat the tilling process until you are satisfied.

    • 5). Shovel the dirt back into place, then move to the next area and continue tilling in this method until the plot is tilled to your satisfaction.
