    Before the Wedding

    • 1). Write out the check to the bride or groom. It is common for people to write out the check to the person they are closer to. Use the bride's full maiden name if you will be sending the check to her. Do not write out the check to both the bride and groom, because technically they are not yet married.

    • 2). Write "wedding present" in the memo area of the check. Fill in the date, dollar amount, and sign the check on the bottom right as usual.

    • 3). Put the check inside a wedding card. You can use a special money card or a regular card to hold the check. A wedding card should address the couple. Write out the card to both the bride and groom in a personal manner using their first names on top. Sign your name on the bottom.

    • 4). Place the card into the envelope and address the envelope to both the bride and groom using the bride's maiden name. Follow this format regardless of whether they already live together. Write your return address in the upper left of the envelope if you are mailing the card.

    • 5). Mail your gift. Receiving the gifts at home before the wedding allows the couple to keep things organized, helps prevent losing or misplacing items and protects the gifts from theft.

    During/After the Wedding

    • 1). Write out the check to the bride and groom. If the bride will be keeping her name then write out both the groom's name and the bride's name, using her maiden name ("Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe"). If the bride is changing her name then write the check out to "Mr. and Mrs." using the groom's last name ("Mr. and Mrs. John Smith").

    • 2). Write "wedding present" in the memo area of the check. Fill in the date, dollar amount, and sign the check on the bottom right as usual.

    • 3). Put the check inside a wedding card. You can use a special money card or a regular card to hold the check. Write out the card to the bride and groom and sign your name.

    • 4). Place the card into the envelope and write the bride and groom's names on the card. Decorate the envelope with wedding bells, flat-back rhinestones and pearls or anything creative to give your card a personal touch.

    • 5). Give the card to the bride and groom. There usually is a table for gifts at the reception, with a decorative box on it specifically for cards.
