The car was created in China as a joint effort and collaboration between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation.
The Buick Multi-Purpose Vehicle, the MPV, is the first car using General Motor's next generation BAS (belted-alternator-starter) and lithium ion hybrid system.
This new system attains 20 percent more efficiency over the existing BAS hybrids that have auto off, electric boost, regenerative braking, and electric-only propulsion.
Design wise, the MPV Business Concept incorporates Chinese elements and influences that reflect on the Chinese culture.
Ancient artifacts and classic shapes are the inspiration for the new MPV.
The large chrome grille gives the MPV a prominent look with intricate details.
The concept includes LED headlamps based on an art form that is based in crystal and popular to the Chinese called Luili.
The strong purple color called Zitan Purple that is meant to grab attention and also get some respect.
The most distinctive design elements in the MPV are the chrome accent along the length of the vehicle that accentuates the shoulder-level dips in the rear power sliding doors.
Inside the business concept, are wood tones, burgundy suede carpet, blue ambient lighting, and a power sliding center console available with a writing tablet or laptop computer area that is accessible from the second and third row.
Functionality is the main focus here, and lounge theme can clearly be seen.
A pair of Captain's chairs are on rails and can swivel making the interior customizable.
Under the hood, the MPV has a 2.
4L four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The hybrid system will achieve a 20% better fuel economy rating than the current generation GM Hybrid System.
This will be accomplished through engine shutdown during idle, electric only driving, fuel cutoff, and regenerative braking.
It is far overdue that Buick produces such a vehicle.
