Natural disasters may not give much warning when they are about to strike but that doesn't mean you can't be prepared to leave at a moment's notice. Go bags give you peace of mind and make it easy to travel when you need to leave quickly. Below is a list of items you can put in your go bags.

Go Bag Checklist

A book bag or other bag that zippers shut to out your go bag contents in so you don't have to worry about the contents falling out.

Bedding, blankets, a bed, or whatever your exotic pet sleeps on to stay warm and comfortable. This will vary from pet to pet.

A heating pad if you have an exotic pet (like a reptile) that needs heat.

A week's worth of food. If you feed live food like insects or rodents this obviously isn't possible to do.

Vaccination records in a sealed ziploc bag (if your pet gets vaccinated).

A water bowl or water bottle.

A collar or leash if your pet uses them.

A cage or carrying container for your pet (snakes do well in pillow cases). Make sure they are clearly labeled with your name and a phone number where you can be reached in case you are separated fom them.

Vet contact information in a sealed ziploc bag.

A photo with you and your pet to prove ownership in a sealed ziploc bag.

Any special medical instructions i.e., medicines, allergies, feeding instructions.

Copies of any licenses or permits to own your exotic pet in a sealed ziploc bag.

Pet first aid kit.

Although every exotic pet has different care requirements, providing the necessary things to keep your pet comfortable and alive is the main focus of the go bags.

Go bags should be placed in an easily accessible area, preferably next to their cage (if they are caged) or near the exit you would be most likely to use in the case of an emergency evacuation. We might be able to predict every disaster but we can do our best to prepare for them.
