DIY Molded Earplugs
- Order a silicone DIY kit from a store. Choose one with a price that fits your needs, a guarantee, and an easy-to-follow process. Be sure that the kit includes silicone, instructions, a carrying case, and a refund if the process does not work.
- Have a friend help you mold your earplugs. Open the kit and take out the two different types of silicone. Do not allow them to touch each other until you are ready to begin. Most kits come with enough silicone for three ear plugs, so you can do a trial one first. Double check your instructions to be sure that you have enough for three.
Divide the two different types of silicone into three equal portions, or two equal portions, depending on how many ear plugs your kit makes. Do not allow the two types of silicone to touch until you are ready to begin.
Take one portion and mix the two types of silicone together by pressing them into a ball and using your fingers 30 seconds. When finished the ball should be one solid color, and should not have any streaks.
Place the ball into your ear canal. Press it in gently so it expands into your ear. It should form a noticeable seal as it fills your ear canal. Use a mirror or a friend to be sure you have pressed the ear plug into all aspects of your outer ear. The outside of the plug should be smooth to the touch and should not be bumpy.
Leave the earplug in place for 15 minutes, or for the length of time determined in your instructions. Gently remove the earplug from your ear by grasping it, pulling down slightly, and pulling it out of your ear. Store your finished earplugs in the provided case. - Wash your hands before using your ear plugs. Remove them from their case and gently insert them into your ear. Pull up on your ear canal as you do, to allow the ear plug to form a seal.
