Still More Melbourne Attractions That are Free to See - Part 3
If you are travelling to Melbourne Australia on a budget then these attractions, the third installment of such, will help you to see some of Melbournes best and most significant attractions for free. And best of all they are all within easy reach of your Melbourne CBD Accommodation.
1. Scot’s Church: Located at the corner of Collins Street and Russell Road, Melbourne, Scots Church was built 1873 with heavy gothic influences
2. St Michaels Uniting Church: A Romanesque church located at the corner Collins Street and Russell Road, Melbourne. built in 1866.
3. Sunday Market at the Arts Centre: Located alongside the Yarra Rive just below the Melbourne Arts centre the Sunday Market is small but busy with hand crafted niche products, crafts and paintings for sale.
4. Bourke Street Mall: A great place to people watch or enjoy the buskers performing. There are of course plenty of shops along the mall as well.
5. Manchester Unity Building: A 1930’s building which was at one stage Melbourne’s tallest.
6. State Library of Victoria: Located at the top end of Swanston Street and on the corner of Latrobe Street the State Library of Victoria is an impressive building for both its architecture and resource. It is open daily from 10am
7. National Post Master Gallery: Located at 321 Exhibition Street the National Post Master Gallery is open daily. Tuesday – Fridays from 10am and Saturday to Monday from 12 noon. On site is Australia’s National Philatelic Collection. Entry is free.
8. Chinatown: Running along Little Bourke Street between Swanston and Spring Streets is Melbourne’s Chinatown. There is a broad selection of restaurants, cafes, asian supermarkets and shops selling asian products.
9. Parliament House of Victoria: At the top end of Bourke Street you will find the Parliament House of Victoria which also served as Australia’s federal Parliament house between 1901 and 1927. Tours run from 10am with the last tour commencing at 3.45pm.
10. Treasury Gardens: The Treasury Gardens are located off Spring Street behind the Victorian Treasury Building.
11. Fitzroy Gardens: The Fitzroy Gardens covers 65 acres and includes attractions such as the Avenue of Elms, lawns, lakes and extensive flowerbeds. It is located at the corner of Lansdowne Street and Wellington Parade and is open daily 9am to 5pm.
12. Fire Services Museum Victoria: Celebrating the history of fire fighting in Victoria, the Fire Services Museum is open Fridays and Sundays from 10am.
