Insane Facts About Star Wars
Jawas are robe covered technological scavengers from the Star Wars universe. They were introduced in the original film, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. As is their scavenger nature, they were depicted picking up the droids R2D2 and C-3PO as they wandered aimlessly throughout the desert planet of Tatooine. They then almost immediately turned around and offered the droids for sale, with no regard to who their actual owners might have been. This is how the two main droids of the Star Wars universe were first introduced to Luke Skywalker, thereby making the appearance of the Jawas a very memorable and important point of the plot.
As scavengers, they put very little time into ensuring that they were selling a good product to their customers. Many fell victim to the Jawa scam This earned them a reputation for being swindlers but perhaps because of the wide variety of droids and other electronics that they offered they seemed to have no difficulty making money. When a customer was unhappy, though, their passive nature would generally take over before a big argument could break out.
Jawas are amongst the most easily recognizable of the non-humanoid creatures in the Star Wars universe. They wear long brown hooded robes which cover the entire length of their bodies and drag on the ground. The only portion of their bodies that can ever be seen is their hands (which are covered by gloves), feet and their glowing yellow eyes. They are short and tiny in stature and are believed to have rodent like features hidden underneath their robes.
They have appeared in four Star Wars movies (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, A New Hope and Return of the Jedi), the animated Clone Wars series and in a wide variety of both canon and non-canon comic books, video games and novels.
