Earlier this year, the History Channel scored big ratings with its miniseries The Bible and is reportedly considering pushing even further into biblical territory with a potentially horror-skewed speculative piece about Jesus' "unknown years" between ages 12 and 30. The series, entitled The Lost Years, explores the 18-year gap in Jesus' life about which little is known, reportedly taking a horror slant by showcasing his encounters exorcising people possessed by demons.

Lest you think the potential for a horror angle might be exaggerated, consider the show comes from producers Eli Roth (who produced The Last Exorcism and, of course, directed Cabin Fever and the first two Hostel films) and Eric Newman (who produced Slither, The Last Exorcism and the remakes The Thing and Dawn of the Dead) and writer Scott Kosar (who wrote the remakes The Crazies, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror). How can it NOT be horror, right?

It hasn't been determined yet if The Lost Years is to be a full-fledged show or a miniseries (I would assume the latter), but if it makes it to air, it's certain to stir up some controversy due to the content. However, the Bible actually does detail instances of Jesus exorcising demons. Matthew Chapter 8 alone includes quite a few exorcisms. Matthew 8:16 states "And when even was come, they brought unto him many possessed with demons: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick." Later, Matthew 8:28-32 tells of Jesus driving demons out of two more people and into a "herd of swine," which then run into the sea and drown.

Sounds pretty horrific to me.
