Foreign Aid Is In Need Of Fixing
The Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak ran into exile with foreign aid money that was given by the United States to this dictator for 30 years that amounted to 45 billion over that period.
We are now hearing that the Swiss government has put a freeze on his funds that is just a mere fraction of that.
What Did The USA Receive in Return? What bang for our buck did Uncle Sam receive for that 1.
5 billion a year? Well it appears what we were actually buying was Israel's safety on her southern border.
With the peace treaty that was signed back during the Jimmy Carter years Israel did not have to devote as much money, time, and effort to protect their southern flank.
The United States did not have to give Israel additional foreign aid money to protect that border.
Thus we apparently saved money there.
Why Would You Trust a Dictator? The horrible mistake in all this was trusting a dictator to do the right thing.
As it turns out in his mind he did the right thing, he confiscated all the aid money and doled it out in crooked deals that benefited his son and his co-harts in crime.
Because there were so many sketchy deals over the decades no one actually knows how much he or his family is worth and his wealth is spread all over the world in different numbered bank accounts that it would probably be almost impossible to track all of it down.
So what does all of this mean in terms of giving crooked dictators enough of our taxpayer dollars to keep Israel safe for 30 years at least safe from the south? Foreign Aid Stolen Foreign aid is hardly ever used for what it was intended.
Sometimes it is given an ally to help support them in international politics and with the particular intent of having an influence in the receiving nations politics.
However, in most cases there is no over-site to make sure the funds are used for the aid it was intended.
The Marshall Plan After WW2 After World War Two the Marshall Plan was instituted by the United States to help rebuild Europe and push it towards capitalism and away from the communist Soviet Union.
This was an excellent idea in that America and her allies already had road, bridge, and clean up machinery on the ground from the war effort.
It was very easy to convert that over to helping Europe to rebuild its destroyed cites, rebuild their bridges, and reclaim the roads and railways so that new building materials could be transported.
The bang for our buck in that particular situation was a tremendous shot in the arm for the whole world.
World Bank & IMF In recent years aid from groups like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund has been used to open new regions of the world to global capitalism.
Just recently Greece was allocated funds from the IMF to help keep its socialized society up and running and out of bankruptcy court.
African Nations Need Over-site In the many cases of giving foreign aid to developing African nations, for example, those nations are in most cases dictatorships.
So when aid is given it is for the most part ineffective and in some cases detrimental to the indigenous populations because aid money can be diverted to buy guns to help subjugate the people and in some cases cause ethnic cleansing as happened in the Sudan in Darfur and Rwanda.
To give countries foreign aid that are run by brutal dictators is in some cases a death sentence for the opposition.
Haiti Aid Money Stolen The earthquake in Haiti several years ago was a perfect example of how not to transfer funds to help the many thousands starving and living in the streets at the time.

Or in simpler terms keeping the thieves away from the foreign aid and making sure it arrives where it is supposed to go.
In order to see that this goes smoothly beauracrats in charge will have to be properly vetted so that they will not get sticky fingers and snag pieces of the aid money.
