How to Fix a Crack in Your Shower
- 1). Scrape out all the grout from the cracked area and around the cracked tile, using the chisel. Strike the chisel with the hammer to dig away the grout.
- 2). Put a ¼-inch diamond masonry bit into your power drill and drill holes from one corner of the cracked tile to another. Each hole should be about an inch apart.
- 3). Set a ¾-inch-wide cold chisel along the holes you drilled. Tap the chisel lightly with a ball-peen hammer until the tile splits completely.
- 4). Insert a flat bar underneath the tile pieces and pry all of them up. Scrape the area with a stiff-bladed scraper. Remove the resulting shards with the vacuum cleaner.
- 5). Use a notched trowel to add ¼ inch of mortar to the space and set the new tile in place. Hold the tile for a few minutes to ensure it sticks to the shower wall.
- 6). Mix grout with a flexible grout additive so help the new tile stay in place and not crack. Apply the grout around the newly installed tile, using a rubber spatula. Remove excess with a wet sponge and let it dry completely before you use the shower.
