Knives and cutters are necessary items in our kitchen pantry storage.
Though these blades seem to be quite harmless, they are quite useful.
They are used as everyday items to cut and chop vegetables and other things.
Life without them would not be as easy as it is right now.
Yet, one thing is hard to realize that these blades in a pantry cabinet come from a family of tools known for their ruthless and brutal usage.
Long before man actually started to eat a wonderfully cut and presented salad, he learned to survive by killing beasts and other men.
Those were truly the times of survival of the toughest.
What helped him in being tougher than huger and stronger creatures was his ability to invent.
He made safe shelters, he made traps and, most importantly, he made weapons.
The weapons not only helped him protect himself and his family, they also helped in feeding them.
It is one astonishing fact that the first weapon ever found is also among the oldest tools ever found.
However, this does not suggest that man's nature was always violent.
In fact, this proves that self defense and survival has always been the prime objective of a man.
The very first kinds of weapons ever discovered are of long before the metal age.
These wooden clubs and sharp edged stones prove that they were once being used as a weapon to kill someone.
Most of the early weapons were piercing ones.
For instance, a wooden throwing spear of around 400,000 years ago was discovered.
The first usage of fire to harden the edges started in around 250,000 ago.
Stone was replaced by copper in the Copper age, and that was shortly replaced by bronze.
Along with Bronze Age, came blades and that is when the very first type of swords were made.
These were so popular that even the iron swords were considered superior for a long time.
Around 1200 BC, the Africans developed new ways to make iron swords better and better.
By the same time, battering ram and cavalries were already developed and warfare was common.
The Romans, Egyptians and Greeks began preparing their armies along with a lot of weapons, chariots, cavalry and ships.
During the middle ages, many tactics of using weapons were developed.
Swords, spears and bows were used in battle according to the situation and distance between enemies.
In the meantime, Middle Eastern warriors also gained a supreme edge in sword making and swordsmanship.
By the 16th century, gunpowder revolutionized the history of weapons, and cannons replaced most of the siege weapons.
Although different kinds of firearms were developed in different regions in different times, guns as we know them today were invented in England.
Invented in1718, the Puckle gun is known to be the very first gun.
This later paved way to further improved versions, and eventually evolved into revolvers and rifles.
Today, guns being used are mostly automatic and are far more accurate and lethal.
Electric guns and nuclear weapons are also a newer revolution in time.
Yet, despite all these, blades still remain one of the best weapons in history.
