How to Hit an Approach Shot in Tennis
- 1). Take the racquet back shorter than a normal groundstroke.
- 2). Move in continuously. Keep approaching the net as you are hitting the ball.
- 3). Hit the ball on the run, and flat and low over the net.
- 4). Finish the shot by split stepping (hopping into a ready position when your opponent is about the strike the ball) inside the service line.
- 5). Split step correctly by positioning your weight on the inside balls of your feet, ready to push off right or left with a burst of speed, like a hockey skate.
- 6). Assume a net volley ready position and mentally be ready to put the ball away.
