Video Transcript
Hi. I'm Farm to Table chef Teca Thompson at tecathompson.com. And today we're talking about how to fertilize blueberries with tomato plant food. So I don't actually use general plant fertilizers that isn't organic. So I'm going to use what I use on my tomatoes. But this can be used on a lot of fruits and vegetables throughout your garden. And then so an organic way to give an extra boost of nutrition and just a really good healthy fertilizer. So when I planted these blueberries I transplanted them from the original pot I bought them in into the their big pot that they're going to grow throughout their growing season. But you know, it's always good to give them a little boost of nutrients especially since it's berrying right now as you can see. And this will give it an extra little boost. I'm going to take blood meal today. In blood meal, it's a water soluble fertilizer as well as you can sprinkle it on top and work it into your soil and water it in. So this is what I'm going to use today and I'm going to put it inside my watering can, dilute it and then pour it over the roots of the berry plant. So depending on the size of your watering can, the directions are on the back as far as how to dilute it and the amount of water you want to use. Just going to take my little watering can, I'm going to take my blood meal, just a little bit. And this is a really high in nitrogen plant food/fertilizer. So I'm just going to take my teaspoon, I'm just going to mix it in, giving it a good mix. And then I'm just going to pour it not on the leaves but over at the base of my little blueberry plant near the roots. And this is a great way to get water right to the roots, you know. I mean I'm sorry, fertilizer right to the roots. Because it just drains right down through the water and it's best of both worlds as far as being water and fertilizer at the same time. So that's it, one little application will do it. That's plenty of water for now. And that's going to give it a nice little boost of fertilizer.
