How to Harvest Brassica Seeds
- 1). Wait until the end of the growing season and stop cutting broccoli, cauliflower or other brassica vegetables for eating.
- 2). Watch for small yellow flowers to form. Once the plant starts to flower, little green seedpods will form.
- 3). Wait for the pods to dry and turn brown.
- 4). Pull the plant out of the ground once the majority of the seedpods are dry and then pick off the pods. Alternatively, you can pick the pods, spread them out on a cookie sheet or cloth, and let them dry and cure off the stem before gathering the seeds.
- 5). Open the seedpods by hand and collect the seeds or put the pods in a cloth bag and smash them open with a rubber mallet or by walking on them.
- 6). Store the seeds in a jar and place in a cool, dry, dark place until the next planting season.
