How to Remove a Quickset Deadbolt
- 1). Open the door part way so that both sides of the deadbolt can be accessed simultaneously, then turn the deadbolt's latch so that the latch bolt protrudes from the edge of the door.
- 2). Remove the back of the lock cylinder. The lock cylinder is located on the interior side of the door, and features a lever (or key slot) that is moved to either lock or unlock the deadbolt. Remove the two screws located on either side of the lever with a Phillips head screwdriver. Place one hand against the exterior side of the lock cylinder, then pull the interior side of the cylinder away from the door to remove it.
- 3). Remove the front of the lock cylinder. The front of the lock cylinder is the portion of the cylinder which mounts to the exterior of the door and features a keyhole in its center. To remove the front of the lock cylinder, pull the cylinder away from the door.
- 4). Remove the latch bolt. The latch bolt is the portion of the assembly in which the bolt slides. Remove the two screws from the edge of the door, where the latch bolt exits the door, with a Phillips head screwdriver; then pull the latch bolt out of the door to complete the removal process.
