Several neighborhoods in the Boston area have swimming and wading pools.There is also a network of sprinklers and fountains that cool visitors with fresh water.

mass.gov - Harborfest is Boston's annual Fourth of July festival with over 200 activities, sponsored by the city of Boston. Harborfest will celebrate its 30th anniversary June 29 to July 4, 2011 with an incredible roster of events. You will find daily activities at City Hall Plaza, and nightly dinner cruises, pub crawls and special presentations. Highlights include a Chowderfest, where Boston's restaurant chefs compete for awards for the best New England chowder, a visit of Tall Ships, and a Children's Day. The event culminates on the Fourth of July with fireworks and a performance by the Boston Pops, a division of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, on the banks of the Charles River.
