Age and Education

• Indiana requires real estate professionals be at least 18 years old. The state also requires candidates for licensure to complete eight semester credit hours of education in real estate law, practice and principles. The courses must be completed at an accredited university or college. The licensee may complete an approved real estate course to satisfy the education requirement as well.
  
  

Examination

• The real estate examination in Indiana has 80 questions covering general real estate and 50 questions on Indiana real estate. The content of the examination includes questions on contracts, characteristics of real property, property valuation, property disclosures, financing, property management and federal real estate laws. The state-specific portion of the examination contains questions regarding licensing, the Indiana real estate commission and statutory requirements. Indiana requires license candidates to complete and pass the examination within one year of completing the required courses.
  
  The examination takes four hours to complete and applicants must obtain a score of 75 on the test to pass. Applicants who fail a section of the examination may retake only that section of the test.
  
  

Broker Certification

• Real estate license candidates must have a broker or corporation complete a portion of the application with his license number. The state requires a licensed broker certify the planned association between the applicant and the broker.
  
  

Renewal Requirements

• An Indiana real estate salesperson license expires every two years. The state requires the salesperson complete 16 hours of continuing education courses during the two years before renewal. The license for real estate salespersons must be renewed during odd numbered years before December 31.
