How do I Install Oasis Alcoa Composite Decking?
- 1). Cut the decking to length using a standard circular saw equipped with a blade with a minimum of 20 teeth per inch. Use the standard methods of measuring the length of the board with a tape measure and marking the cut location with a square before cutting to length.
- 2). Attach the Oasis composite decking to the joists or stringers using screws rather than nails. The website Hammer Zone suggests the use of a special deck screw marketed under the brand name TrapEase. These screws are designed to be driven into composite decking without predrilling holes. However, the website also suggests the screws perform best if the composite boards are predrilled.
- 3). Route or sand exposed ends of the Oasis composite decking. This creates smooth edges by rounding over the sharp edges of saw cuts on exposed board ends. If the final board along the long edge of the deck is ripped, cut lengthwise with a table or radial arm saw. The entire length of the board can by rounded off to create a more finished look to the front edge of the deck.
- 4). Add any deck railing or other features using the same construction methods used in a standard wood deck. Composite material deck railings and posts are also available.
