    American Board of Funeral Service Education National Scholarship Program

    • The American Board of Funeral Service Education has a scholarship program for students enrolled in mortuary science or funeral service programs. Awards range from $500 to $2,500 and are applied directly to a student's tuition. There are two application periods each year. In order to apply, students must have completed at least one semester or quarter of school and be a U.S. citizen. Students must submit transcripts, letters of recommendation and tax forms. Applications are available online.

    Funeral Service Foundation Scholarships

    • The Funeral Service Foundation (FSF) is a nonprofit funeral service organization that provides scholarships and grants to students seeking careers in the industry. FSF has three scholarship programs. The Joseph Hagan Memorial Scholarship is for full-time mortuary science students enrolled in an accredited program. Five students are selected based on an essay submission. The award amount is $1,000. The Key Memories Scholarship is an award of $2,500 given to two students. Students are selected based on a paper written on a predetermined topic. The National Funeral Director's Association (NFDA) Professional Women's Conference Scholarship is for tuition costs of women and travel fees to the annual NFDA conference. Applicants must submit a multi-page application and submit answers to a questionnaire. All FSF scholarship applications are available online.

    International Order of the Golden Rule Excellence Scholarship

    • The International Order of the Golden Rule (OGR) is a trade group of independently owned funeral homes. OGR awards two merit-based scholarships per year. One scholarship is for $3,500 and the other is for $2,000. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a mortuary science program, have a GPA of at least 3.0, be involved in community service or school activities and committed to working for an independently owned funeral home. Students must also submit an essay and transcripts. A board of OGR members selects winners. The application for the scholarships is available online.

    End of Life Insights Textbook Scholarship Program

    • End of Life Insights is a funeral service consulting company. The company awards two $500 textbook scholarships for students who take mortuary science courses. Students must submit an essay, letters of recommendation and transcripts. Applicants must also have a GPA of at least 2.5. The organization publishes the top five essays submitted for the scholarship. The scholarship application is available online.
