You need to reorganize your home office and it is worth the effort.
Instead of spending money in engaging a professional organizer or jumping into many similar things you need to first organize paper clutter which is a top priority issue normally in a home office.
  1. Imagine a paperless office: Paperless office do not mean zero paper office, it only means that you will be having lesser paper in the office.
    Paperless office is one of the dreams of many people today.
    Review your one week or one month related documents which you are receiving and make an inventory of the same.
    Now telephone every service provider and ask them to given the same document in electronic format.
    This can be done by subscribing to email list so that you can avoid the hard copy of the document coming to the office.
    You will suddenly realize that the number of documents reaching office has come down to a considerable extend.
    You have saved good amount of time in either clearing these papers or organizing these papers.
  2. The Tale of Two Trays, in and Out: You can have two trays in the office, one for receiving the incoming mails, and the second tray for outgoing documents.
    Merely keeping the tray will never help you to be organized.
    These are just the tools and it will work well in the hands of the person who uses it.
    The ways in which these trays need to be used are immediately when you receive a document in your in tray and have initiated the action, you need to finish it.
    Never leave it hanging around in the in-tray for long time.
    And once action is taken on it pushes it to the out tray and or immediately organizes the paper or takes some action.
  3. Are you wasting time searching documents: You must be spending too much time in locating any document which you remember you just kept somewhere few minutes back? But you are trying to look for it and not able to get it.
    What is the problem? You paper organizing system must be very poor.
    Though you may have tried to reduce the papers by trying to restrict it entering office, but you cannot totally avoid paper entering office.
    There may be documents which are legally valid only when you have it as a hard copy document etc.
    You need to buy a quick organizational system, files, folders etc which can improve your paper management.
Managing paper at the initial stage of de-cluttering exercise can reduce your stress level to considerable extend, thereafter you can proceed to other areas of your house.
