Depo-Lupron Side Effects
- Depo Lupron may cause weight gain in some users. Depo Lupron may cause this side effect because it lowers the metabolic rate in some users. Metabolic rate refers to how fast an individual metabolizes anything that is put into the body. To avoid weight gain while using Depo Lupron, make sure to follow a healthy diet plan and consume plenty of fluids (especially water).
- Nausea is a commonly reported side effect of Depo Lupron use. Nausea generally occurs from the body being introduced to something (such as Depo Lupron) to which it has not yet developed a tolerance. Feelings of nausea from a new medication generally subside 3-4 days after the first use. After this period the nausea should be minimal to non-existent. If the nausea continues after this period, consult your physician and ask for an ant-emetic, which is a drug used to combat nausea.
- Depo Lupron users may experience constipation. This can attributed to Depo Lupron causing a decrease in metabolic rate in some users. To avoid constipation while using Depo Lupron, make sure to consume plenty of fluids and eat foods rich in fiber. If the constipation is severe, consider using a laxative or stool softener for relief.
- Depo Lupron can cause a decrease in libido (desire to have sex) in some users. This occurs because Depo Lupron reduces the amount of estrogen being produced by the body. If a decrease in libido occurs from Depo Lupron use, ask your doctor about treatments that are available to raise your libido.
- Most side effects of Depo Lupron use are bothersome, but can be tolerated by the majority of patients. However, some severe side effects can occur. These include allergic reactions (hives, rash, swelling, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing), chest pain, irregular or fast heartbeat, severe headache, and bone pain. If any of these side effects occur while taking Depo Lupron, seek medical assistance immediately.
