During Halloween people enjoy dressing up, going to parties and gatherings and finding new ways to frighten each other. Halloween can also be a fun family holiday that can help a family find several activities they can do together. When you are looking for new ideas to help you and your family celebrate Halloween you can use your imagination and the imaginations of your children to help make the holiday a family event. - Rather than buy costumes have the entire family get involved in designing and creating costumes for each other. Everyone would pick the costume that they wanted to wear, find a picture of the costume or create an idea in a drawing and then the whole family can put their skills together to help create the costume. Be sure to allow a few weeks to complete this project.
- Instead of sending the kids out trick-or-treating on Halloween, invite the whole family over for a Halloween party. You could play traditional Halloween games such as bobbing for apples. The children can be given gift bags of candy and toys when the party is over.
- Buying Halloween decorations can get expensive. Instead of buying decorations, make it a family project to create all of your Halloween decorations. You can create paper mache pumpkins and ghosts, put lights in them for an added effect and hang them around the house. You can also use household items such as sheets, magic markers and construction paper to create other Halloween decorations for the house. The family would also work on the jack-o-lantern together as well.
- Create homemade candies with Halloween themes for everyone to eat during the holiday. You can purchase molds to make Halloween themed chocolate candies, frozen treats using fruit juices and caramel apples as well. Use frosting to decorate your candies.
- Get a family picture taken with everyone in their costumes and then create greeting cards using a computer and a printer to send to family and friends. You could also use these personalized family Halloween cards as invitations to your family Halloween party.
- Get the trick-or-treating out of the way early, and then have the family create a haunted house to greet guests that come looking for treats. Use flashing lights, costumes, sound effects and visual effects to try and scare the people that come trick-or-treating to your house.
- There is no reason to limit the family jack-o-lantern to just one. Have each member of the family carve a jack-o-lantern of their own, and then put them all on display during Halloween night.
