What Is the Difference Between Diesel & Motor Oil?

    Engines

    • Diesel oil is a heavy oil that is used to power diesel engines, while motor oil simply helps to lubricate an engine so that the parts can work smoothly together for better performance.

    Motor Oil Types

    • Conventional, synthetic and synthetic blend oils are the three main types of motor oil. Conventional motor oil is the least expensive, synthetic motor oil is the most expensive and synthetic motor oil usually costs somewhere in between.

    Diesel Oil Types

    • Conventional, biodiesel and gas-to-liquid diesel are main diesel oil types. Because conventional diesel has about 500 parts per million of sulfur, some of the sulfur has to be removed in order for it to be used in an engine, as opposed to biodiesel oil which is produced from biological matter other than petroleum. Gas-to-liquid diesel oil is processed from a conversion of natural gas or coal, into liquid fuels.
