How to Make Baby Ruffle Socks

    • 1). Hold a soft tape measure against the top opening of one of the socks and measure around the sock opening to find the circumference. Multiply the circumference by 2 to determine the length of ribbon or lace needed for the ruffle.

    • 2). Cut a piece of lace trim or ribbon to the length obtained in Step 1. Use 1/2-inch-wide ribbon to make multiple ruffles on the sock, or use 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon for a single ruffled trim.

    • 3). Apply a small amount of fray stop treatment to the ends of the ribbon. This step is not necessary when using lace trim. The treatment helps to prevent the ribbons from fraying.

    • 4). Pin the sewn edge of the trim around the top of the sock with the good side of the trim facing inward. Attach the trim just beneath the top edge so when the top of the sock is folded over the edge is hidden. As you insert pins to attach the ribbon, tug on the sock to make it stretch. This way, the entire long length of the trim is pinned to the sock and creates ruffles when the fabric contracts back to its regular size.

    • 5). Sew the short ends of the trim together to create a finished edge.
