Trex Porch Ideas

Trex decking is a popular material for eco-conscious home updates. The Trex company offers decking and railing products made from recycled plastic and wood. Decking may be laid on top of existing concrete or wood, and because it has the strength of plastic, you can put it in direct contact with the ground without worrying about the deck rotting away. - Use several levels of Trex decking to create a terraced effect, whether you are on flat or hilly ground. If your home opens out onto a hillside, frame a deck with several levels that work their way down the hill, then give each layer its own color of Trex decking. Set color-coordinated planter boxes along the front railing of each level and plant flowers that offer bolder versions of the Trex colors. For flat yards, start at ground level and terrace your way up just a couple of feet, then back down the other side. Use the same color and style of decking for each level at the same height, such as Saddle Brown for ground level and Woodland Brown for a 2-foot-high level, combined with Winchester Gray for the stairs and railings.
- Don't get stuck in a rectangular rut with your Trex deck. You can cut Trex to form a deck of nearly any shape, so try a sweeping curve to soften the lines of your home and create a welcoming atmosphere. Design a raised level near the door that has a concave curve and rounded ends. Install a second level a step or two down that creates a convex patio for entertaining. In the center of this lower section, add round patio furniture such as curved benches or a large, round table at the center. Consider adding railings around the edge of the lower curve, even if it is at ground level, to create a ballroom feel. Combine gray or white railings with wood tone decking to enhance this look.
- Create a large, hexagonal deck with a light color of Trex decking, and then drop a hexagon in the center about 3 feet lower with the same decking. Build benches into the sides of this lower level, covered with a darker shade of Trex, creating an intimate space where visitors can face each other for conversation. Surround the lowered area with railings on all but one or two sides to reduce the possibility that visitors will stumble in. If the dropped area is large enough, add a small outdoor coffee table that has a fire pit in the center.
