Leveling the Concrete

• 1). Fill any cracks in the concrete with a crack sealer by smoothing the sealer in with the trowel. For larger cracks, use a vinyl concrete patch or sand mix.
  
  
• 2). Sweep and clean the surface of the concrete with the wire brush and broom.
  
  
• 3). Scrub the area with warm water and allow it to dry. Hammer in strips of wood across door openings if the concrete is indoors so that no sealer or patching agent will seep into another room. If it is outdoors, hammer the wood in a form frame around the concrete slab you are working on.
  
  
• 4). Mix the leveling compound in the bin, and apply it to the concrete with a brush. Use the same strokes you would use if you were painting a wall or deck. Apply two coats if you deem it necessary.
  
  
• 5). Allow the compound to dry completely, then remove the wooden strips and nails. Do not walk on the concrete surface for 12 to 24 hours.
  
  

Resurfacing concrete

• 1). Remove any loose, chipped or weak concrete with a hammer and chisel.
  
  
• 2). Set up furring strips around the perimeter of the concrete being resurfaced and hammer the stakes in the ground behind them to hold them in place.
  
  
• 3). Mix two parts fine sand and one part Portland cement in a wheelbarrow, then add water in accordance with the instructions on the cement mixture package.
  
  
• 4). Manufacture a cement paint by mixing Portland cement and water in a bin until it resembles paint, then apply it to the concrete with a brush.
  
  
• 5). Pour the wheelbarrow mixture on top of the cement paint before the it has time to dry. Smooth the mixture with a bow rake so that is dispenses evenly. Pull a plastic sheet tightly over the resurfaced concrete and allow it to dry. Remove the form strips once the cement has set completely.
