Once you have all the necessary materials for making it, score copper sheet which is as big as your burner is.
Before you cut the sheet, ensure that you have washed it thoroughly so that all the impurities present on its surface like the sulphides are removed.
This will also take care of the corrosion.
Using sandpaper will help you in removing the surface impurities.
Once the sheet is ready, place it on the burner and allow it to be heated for a long time until it changes its color from red to black.
The sheet turns black in color due to deposition of the black cupric oxide.
When you will heat it further, the black coating will thicken.
Allow the sheet to cool slowly and when once it has cooled down, the cupric oxide layer also shrinks.
This layer then flakes off easily.
Run water over the sheet to remove flakes further but do not scrub it.
Now take a jar and put a sheet of same size inside it while bending it.
Put the heated sheet too inside it.
Attach alligator clips to each.
Take 3 to 4 tablespoons of salt and mix it into salt water, and stir it vigorously so that it dissolves properly.
Pour this water into the jar while ensuring that it doesn't wet the leads.
Leave some portion - 1 inch, of the leads in air.
