How to Remove Paint From a Burner

    Electric Burners

    • 1). Unplug and remove the burners from the stove. Most burners slide out with a gentle tug. Lift the burner to disconnect it from the electric connection point.

    • 2). Fill the sink with warm water and dish washing detergent. Set the burners next to sink. Don't place the burners in the sink.

    • 3). Dip an abrasive pad in the soap water. Scrub the paint with the pad. Repeat the process several times until the paint drips are completely gone. If the soap and water doesn't work well the paint may be oil-based. Dip a rag in paint thinner and scrub the burner until the paint begins to dissipate. Continue scrubbing the burner until the paint is completely gone. Clean the burner with the soapy water and then rinse it well with a clean damp rag to remove all traces of the paint thinner.

    • 4). Wipe the burners with a clean damp rag to get rid of the soapy residue. Allow them to completely air dry before placing them back on the stove.

    Ceramic Burners

    • 1). Dampen a dish cloth with warm soap and water. Place the cloth over the paint drips and let it sit for five to 10 seconds so the soap and water penetrates the paint. Scrub the burner with the cloth several times. If it is not possible to completely remove the paint with a damp dish cloth, proceed to next step.

    • 2). Scrape the paint drips off with a single edge razor blade. Hold the blade at a 30-degree angle. Work the edge of the blade between the bottom of the drip and the surface of the burner with a gentle amount of pressure. Remove all the paint drips with the razor blade. Wipe the burner with the damp rag again to remove the last traces of paint residue.

    • 3). Rinse the burner with a clean cloth and water to remove all the soap residue. Buff the burner with a dry cloth until the burner is dry and there are no water marks.
