How to Wash Soda Rust Removal
- 1). Fill the large plastic bucket with enough water to cover the rust-covered item. Add a tablespoon washing soda per gallon of water or a half cup washing soda per 5 gallons of water. Mix the solution until the washing soda dissolves.
- 2). Place the piece of scrap rebar into the bucket so that at least a one-quarter of it is out of the water. With the battery charger off and unplugged, clamp the positive cable to the scrap rebar.
- 3). Clamp the negative cable from the battery charger to the rust-covered item.
- 4). Place the rust-covered item into the bucket. The negatively charged item can be partially or completely submerged, without harm.
- 5). Turn on the battery charger. Bubbles will begin to appear around the items and a dark film will coat the surface of the solution.
- 6). Turn off the batter charger before checking the status. Rinse the item and scrub the dark film off the item once the rust is removed.
