Is There Any Way to Get Rid of Dog Urine Smell on Carpets?
- 1). Blot fresh urine stains with plenty of paper towels. Continue until the paper towels come up dry, as this will remove much of the urine before it soaks into the carpet.
- 2). Combine equal parts white vinegar and warm water in a bowl or cup. Slowly drizzle over the area of carpeting and continue blotting with paper towels. The vinegar will break up the urine enzymes and reduce if not entirely remove the urine smell.
- 3). Cover the area with a thick layer of baking soda, which is an effective deodorizing agent.
- 4). Drizzle a light coat of hydrogen peroxide on top of the baking soda and let the mixture react and foam. The combination will deodorize the carpeting.
- 5). Scrub the area with a damp cleaning rag. Continue until all residue is removed, rinsing the rag as needed.
- 6). Vacuum the carpet after it has air dried to restore the shape of the pile.
- 7). Use a steam cleaner if your entire carpet is affected. Pour 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water into the liquid canister of the steam cleaner and push it over the carpeting just as you'd use a vacuum cleaner. Pull the steam trigger as needed when steam is no longer rolling out of the unit's base.
