    • 1). Visit your physician. Your physician can determine whether or not you need systemic antibiotics to prevent your staph infection from getting worse. Also, he may prescribe specific washes or topical ointments.

    • 2). Wash the skin affected with staph thoroughly at least two times a day. Use a prescribed cleanser, mild soap and water, or a saline solution. Follow up with an antibacterial solution, like diluted tea tree oil or rubbing alcohol, to help kill the bacteria.

    • 3). Use a topical antibacterial agent on your staph infection. Neosporin is a popular one. If you'd prefer something more holistic, try spreading on a thin layer of Manuka honey, a potent natural antibiotic.

    • 4). Keep the skin affected by staph clean. Avoid touching the area with your hands, and cover with clean gauze or a bandage to prevent contamination. Change dressings frequently.

    • 5). Boost your immune system to prevent the staph from worsening. Eat a variety of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, and consider adding garlic, a natural anti-microbial, to your food. Drink at least eight, 8-ounce glasses of water per day, and get plenty of rest as well.
