How to Install Basketball Hoops

    • 1). Locate an area in which you plan to install the basketball pole. Ideal areas are free of trees or other obstructions and located on level ground.

    • 2). Dig a hole in the earth, using an auger. The hole should be roughly 2 feet in diameter and descend the number of feet as indicated on your pole setup. This number is often between 4 and 6 feet deep.

    • 3). Place the pole into the hole, ensuring it has descended to the correct depth.

    • 4). Mix the cement powder with water in a wheelbarrow, according to the instructions on the package.

    • 5). Fill the hole three-quarters of the way up with cement and hold a level against the pole to ensure it remains perfectly upright. When the pole is set to the angle you desire, fill the remainder of the hole with cement.

    • 6). Let the cement dry for the length of time as specified on the bag. This time will usually be 24 to 48 hours.

    • 7). Bolt the second part of the pole to the base that is sunk into the cement. Basketball net poles are usually divided into two pieces -- one to sink into the ground and the other to actually serve as the main pole.

    • 8). Set up a ladder next to the pole and mount the backboard to the pole, using the mounting brackets and hardware that came with the pole.

    • 9). Attach the rim to the backboard, using the provided hardware.

    • 10

Thread the net through the holders on the rim until it is firmly in place.
