How to Get Happy
- 1). Get fit. Daily exercise not only keeps your heart ticking along and gives you an exhilarating feeling, but also has been shown to help alleviate depression. You can go all-out with weightlifting or jogging, or pick a slower routine such as yoga or bicycling. Even a simple morning walk will help you feel better.
- 2). Get adequate sleep. No one can be happy if she is tired, cranky or falling over from lack of sleep. Eight hours a day is the recommended length, but every person varies in the amount needed. Don’t forget the joy of napping.
- 3). Meditate daily. Meditation relieves stress, centers you and reminds you what is important: the health of your soul. Meditation is also not some mysterious practice. Anyone can partake, even if it’s for five little minutes. Sit up straight, close your eyes and breathe deeply. Think happy and grateful thoughts.
- 4). Enjoy what you do. If you hate your job or daily routine, either adjust your attitude to start enjoying it or go do something else. You won't be happy wallowing for eight hours in an office you abhor or being forced into daily drudgery that makes you angry, nauseous or resentful.
- 5). Follow your dreams. Dreams are what keep us alive—and happy. Do at least one small thing daily to help you achieve them. Write a poem. Paint a picture. Build a cabinet. These don’t have to be giant tasks, but just enough to keep dabbling in your dreams. If your dream was to be a ballerina and you have a feeling that won’t happen since you happen to be 62, you can still follow your dreams by attending ballets, listening to classical music or helping someone else learn the art.
- 6). Love. Exuding love to everyone you meet will definitely set you on the path to happiness. Start small. Love your neighbor, love your best friend, love your pet. Love yourself. Look at the world with love in your heart, and there’s no way you won't be enjoying yourself.
