How to Remove Salt Stains From Boots

    • 1). Brush off excess salt and dirt, using a shoe brush. At this time, also remove dirt and/or loose salt from the soles to prevent this from transferring to the rest of the boot later.

    • 2). Mix about half a cup of warm water with half a cup of white vinegar in a clean bowl. You can make more or less of this solution--it depends on how many pairs of boots you need to clean and how badly they are stained.

    • 3). Dampen one corner of a clean cloth in the vinegar and water mixture. Wipe this over the salt-stained areas of the boots. If the stain does not easily come off, add a little more vinegar and water solution to the cloth and wipe the boot again--scrub a little if necessary.

    • 4). Let the boot air dry naturally. If, after the boot is dry, the stain is still a bit visible, use the vinegar again.

    • 5). Use a water-repellent leather conditioner (or a suede spray cleaner if the boots are suede) on the boots when they are dry. This is to keep the boots supple so they don't crack, and to help prevent future stains.
