A year back, Cole Hamels, the baseball pitcher, was on the disabled list of his team, and had to sit out of all the games in September owing to his injuries.
Now, Hamels is being hailed as the best and got the MVP (most valuable player) award in the 2008 World Series, where he led his team to win the World Championship.
The team that Hamels pitches for is the Philadelphia Phillies.
Towards the 2007 season's end, he developed severe elbow related problems, which in turn kept him out of the games being played.
He has also suffered from hip pain and knee pain related problems earlier in his career, and these were taken care of through Chiropractic care.
Before the 2008 season began, Hamels made a request to the management of the Phillies.
He wanted the management to help by providing Chiropractic assistance to him and the other players while they were in Philadelphia.
He also added that this Chiropractic assistance be made available when the team was traveling to different cities while playing away from home games.
After the management had agreed, Hamels said that ever since he used a Chiropractor, it had worked wonders for him, and that it was good that the management was going out of its way in putting together a network of Chiropractors.
This statement was made in April, 2008.
During that period he also said that after the Chiropractic help was completely available he felt that their team could soon become a 20 game winner during the season.
While Hamels couldn't quite reach the 20 games, he wrapped up the year with an appreciable 14 ~ 10 record.
This did help the team to get to the conference championship along with a place in the play offs, and this is the period where Hamels started to excel.
Hamels' first play off appearance was against the Milwaukee Brewers, where he starred as the winning pitcher; and this made his team advance, facing the LA Dodgers in the next round.
He pitched in the first game of the series against the LA Dodgers and came out shining again, thereby taking the Phillies to the World Series.
This is also when he received the distinction of being the Most Valuable Player in the League Championship.
In the World Series, with good results to back him and feeling confident about his health, Hamels took to the mound in the first game against the Tampa Bay Rays and clinched a victory.
With the series down to the line, Hamels was called again for the final game, and he helped his team win that one too.
His overall performance helped him get the much desired MVP distinction for the World Series 2008.
His post season performance as well as his 4 wins and 0 losses record of the yearís play offs will surely be remembered for a long time.
While he had to sit out of most of the games in 2007 Fall, he now was the talk of the town, making a number of appearances on the television in shows that included the Late Show with Letterman.
It is evident that the confidence that Hamels placed in Chiropractic treatment, as well as his desire to get involved in taking care of his health, had a lot to do with his success during the season.
Hurrah for Hamels, the Phillies, and Chiropractors, for a great World championship season.
