Contact the local permit department and determine whether you will need a permit to complete the work for your tub install. Some Jacuzzi tubs will require an alteration to the electrical connections or plumbing in the home, but if an electrical connection is already in place and the tub fits the existing plumbing, a permit may not be needed. Verify the tub model you plan to install and how it will be connected, then inquire about the permits required for your project. - 2

Prepare the bathroom for the tub install. If there is an existing tub, it will need to be removed. Some tubs may require demolition with a sledge hammer, cutting it into manageable pieces with a saw, or you may be able to pry it loose with a crowbar to remove it in one piece. If the new tub's dimensions are bigger than the old tub, carefully trim the drywall surrounding the tub with a utility knife to make space for the new tub. Measure the tub space and the tub with a tape measure for accuracy. - 3

Test the fit of the tub before continuing. Cut out additional dry wall as needed to make sure the tub will fit into the space. Insert the tub's drain in the drain hole and secure it with plumber's putty. Spread a 2-inch layer of mortar in the tub space and slowly lower the tub into the mortar. Wipe away any excess mortar, and do not apply weight to the tub until the mortar has set. - 4

Follow the tub manufacturer's instructions to connect the waste, overflow and trap for the tub. Plug in the tub's electrical unit. If faucets or tub spouts need to be installed, do so according to the manufacturer's directions. Fill the tub with water and check the function of the Jacuzzi. If there are any problems with the Jacuzzi mechanism, call a licensed electrician for repair or contact the tub manufacturer for assistance.
