You can get the Thomas the Train solid metal engines that are battery operated and run them on this wooden railway. Just make sure they are the wooden railway set and not the larger plastic models. So no need to through away the trains you have at home. With the purchase of this railway train set your little engineer can play with most of there trains on it.
Many other brands of railway tracks are made out of plastic so they just break. The ones that are made out of wood are either cheaply made so the pieces don't fit together or are so expensive we cant afford them. We gave it to our train-loving three year old, but all of the older members of the family have had a great time with it too. The cranes, bridges and train shed are all great favorites and they are well made so I expect they will last for a long time.
