How to Make Stuff out of a Jacket

    Pocket Purse

    • 1). Cut out a large pocket from your jacket. You need the seam to stay intact, so cut along the outer edges of the seam.

    • 2). Sew a shoulder strap from one side of the pocket to the other. There are many different materials you can use to make a shoulder strap, including ribbon, decorative rope, a belt, a dog leash or a strip of fabric.

    • 3). Decorate the front of the pocket with markers, fabric paint, beads, patches, appliques, etc.

    • 4). Attach adhesive Velcro strips to the opening of the pocket.

    Throw Pillow

    • 1). Draw two equal-sized squares on the jacket using tailor's chalk and a measuring tape. Make the squares about a half inch larger than you want the actual pillow to be.

    • 2). Place both squares of fabric on top of each other, with the decorative sides facing each other.

    • 3). Pin along the outer edges of the pillow, leaving about a half inch of fabric between the pins and the edges of the fabric.

    • 4). Sew along three of the four edges of the pillow, removing the pins as you go.

    • 5). Sew three-quarters of the fourth edge together, removing any remaining pins as you go.

    • 6). Turn the fabric inside out using the small opening you left unsewn.

    • 7). Stuff the pillow with polyfill.

    • 8). Hand stitch the stuffing gap closed.

    • 9). Sew a decorative trim around the outer edges of the pillow if desired.

    Fabric Bookmark

    • 1). Cut a piece of card stock in the height and width that you want your bookmark to be, using a ruler and a pencil to draw straight lines.

    • 2). Cut two pieces of fabric, slightly longer and wider than the piece of card stock you just cut.

    • 3). Paint one side of the card stock with a thin layer of glue.

    • 4). Apply one piece of fabric to the card stock with the decorative side exposed, smoothing out any wrinkles as you go.

    • 5). Flip the card stock over and repeat Step 3 and Step 4.

    • 6). Cut along the edges of the card stock to remove any excess fabric.

    • 7). Punch a hole in the top of the bookmark.

    • 8). Tie a ribbon or a tassel to the hole.
