How to Kill Moss on Trees

    • 1). Remove the tree moss using a soft, plastic rake around the base of the tree. Carefully use a ladder to remove moss growing beyond reach of the ground.

    • 2). Increase sunlight to the tree bark by trimming away adjacent tree and shrub growth. Tree moss, like lawn moss, prefer indirect sunlight or shade. Sunny bark environments discourage moss growth.

    • 3). Remove any rotting bark, dead limbs, and bacterial or fungal growth from the tree. Decomposing, organic tree matter is the foundation for tree moss growth.

    • 4). Monitor the tree for dead bark and moss growths every month. Identifying and correcting problem areas in their infancy is much easier once the tree moss is heavily established.
