Benefits

• Like most health care plans, Tricare offers preventive and emergency medical coverage at a discounted rate, which is based on a pre-arranged premium. However, Tricare is only offered to U.S. active and retired military personnel and their families, and civilians may not apply. The medical benefits covered by Tricare include include hospitalization, outpatient visits, maternity, mental health and wellness services, preventive health and all immunizations. Members can have their prescriptions covered at most pharmacies and dental plans are also available.
  
  

Insurance Plans

• Tricare Prime, according to the website Tricare.mil, is the most affordable and all-encompassing package option for military personnel, but other package plans are available, such as Tricare Prime Overseas, which covers active military soldiers serving around the world, and Tricare For Life, which provides additional senior coverage if the policy holder has Medicare.
  
  

Cost

• If a military personnel member is on active duty, there is no initial enrollment cost, co-pays or fees for Tricare coverage. Family members of active military personnel and retired military personnel are required to pay Tricare enrollment fees and co-payments, unless they are visiting a military treatment facilities, which is free of charge for all Tricare members.
