Industrial Uses of Hydrogen Gas

104 9

    Manufacturing

    • Hydrogen gas is used as a main ingredient when creating solutions such as ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, methanol, and other common solvents. It is used by pharmaceutical companies to manufacture vitamins and other drugs. Laboratories use hydrogen to purify other gasses by allowing the hydrogen to bond with oxygen, forming water that can be easily removed.

    Energy Production

    • Due to its high level of thermal conductivity, hydrogen is a great candidate for use as an industrial coolant, especially in large scale power plants. It can also be used to create an insulating atmosphere to be used during the production of fuel rods for use in nuclear power plants.

    Military Weaponry

    • When hydrogen is heated to extreme temperatures its molecules fuse together to create helium, releasing large amounts of thermonuclear energy. A Hydrogen Bomb creates these conditions on a large scale and rapidly releases this thermonuclear energy to create mass destruction. The power produced by a Hydrogen Bomb is many times more powerful than that produced by an Atomic Bomb.
