How to Have a Reality Show
- 1). Come up with an interesting concept for a reality show that people will like and want to watch. It shouldn't be just your regular daily routine. It should be compelling and unique, and it should hopefully be something new that isn't currently available on television.
- 2). Write a treatment/synopsis for your idea. A treatment is like a small script that fully details what your show will be about. The treatment should include basic information such as the format, the "plot," who the "characters" or personalities will be, where the show will be filmed, and any other necessary information that will help producers get a clear idea of your show. Furthermore, explain why you think this is a good idea for a reality show, why you think it will succeed and how it's relevant to the reality television market.
- 3). Contact the executives and producers of various television networks via mail, email or phone. Be prepared to pitch your idea in a professional manner.
- 4). Send your reality show treatment to as many networks as possible to better your chances of getting your own show.
- 5). Set up a meeting with the executives that have shown interest to discuss further details of your show. If you have created a great enough show that fits in with their desires for programming, you will have it professionally produced.
