How to Replace the Hot and Cold Knob on a Washing Machine
- 1). Unplug the washing machine from the wall.
- 2). Locate the hot and cold knobs that you want to replace on the washing machine control panel on the front or top of the machine.
- 3). Insert the edge of a plastic putty knife in between the knobs and the washing machine control panel.
- 4). Gently pull the putty knife back and pry the knobs off the control arm. Once you have moved the knobs back a quarter of an inch or so, grasp the knobs firmly and pull backwards. Grasp a slippery knob with a pair of channel-lock pliers.
- 5). Slip new knobs over the control arm.
- 6). Remove hot and cold knobs with larger spinner indicators by pressing down on the indicator with one hand. Take your other hand and rotate the knob body counterclockwise. Unscrew the knob from the machine. Replace the knob with a knew one by holding the spinner and screwing on a new knob clockwise. Repeat for the other knob.
