How Can I Impress Staffing Personnel at an Interview?
- 1). Show confidence during the interview. Nervousness is understandable during an interview. Control your nerves to appear confident and self-assured. Keep your eyes on the interviewer, offer a firm handshake upon meeting staffing personnel and speak clearly and loudly enough for the interviewer to hear your responses. Avoid fidgety movements such as rocking and shaking your legs.
- 2). Rehearse answers to commonly asked interview questions. You can expect staffing personnel to inquire about why you want the job and why you're the best person for the position. Be ready with answers to these and other interview questions (see Resources). Think about your responses ahead of time and practice your answers out loud several times before the interview.
- 3). Come with your own list of questions. Staffing personnel usually invite potential employees to ask them questions. Prepare for this part of the interview process and think of questions to ask the interviewer. Good questions include: What are the company's goals? What would be my primary tasks? What are the top challenges associated with this position? Is there room for growth within the company? Am I replacing someone, or is the position new?
- 4). Increase your business skills. Take additional classes, workshops and seminars, or learn a foreign language to impress potential employers. Additional skills in computers and customer service can put you ahead of other candidates for the job.
- 5). Build a rapport with the interviewer. Being likable helps you get a new job. Greet the staffing personnel pleasantly -- offer a smile. Engage in small talk before the interview. Draw out the interviewer with a comment about the wonderful weather, if applicable, or a comment on the office's beautiful decor.
