How to Install a Shower Inside a Pop-up Camper
- 1). Select a location where the shower pan and curtain/rod assembly can be fitted. With user privacy in mind, decide on a closet or stack of shelves you can live without, both large enough and in a position to serve as a shower. Remove the pre-existing furniture or equipment.
- 2). Prepare the location according to the shower pan manufacturer's literature. Typically it will be necessary to cut a hole out of the floor to allow a drain to exit the shower pan and to fit a holding tank beneath the pop-up camper to accept and then dispose of the waste water. You also will need to run both hot and cold plumbing to the location and fit a mixer faucet where it is convenient to use but will not obstruct the raising and lowering of the camper's upper section.
- 3). Read and understand the instructions delivered with shower pan and all the accessories. Install your new system accordingly.
- 4). Install a cassette toilet and shower combo that allows for a functional plumbing system without the costly and sometimes inconvenient addition of external black- and gray-water tanks, with their necessary sewer runs and dump station valves. A cassette toilet and shower combo features an integral waste-water holding tank, with wheels and a handle attached, that can be dumped into any household or gas station toilet or campground dump station. Some even have electronic indicator displays to report level of effluent in the holding tank.
- 5). Create a space inside the camper large enough to accept the cassette toilet and shower combo, where it can be fitted adjacent to an outside wall. Use a jigsaw or circular saw to cut out a service port, then bolt the unit down. There is no wiring required and no plumbing to install; a cassette toilet and shower combo is completely self-contained. Make an outside door that accesses the removable cassette and water-fill equipment.
