• Chevrolet chose the SuperSport Impala to use for its anniversary car. The car had special gold paint, gold bucket seats and decals marking it as a special edition. Few were made and these cars are rare today.
  
  

Significance

• At different times, Chevrolet has used special gold paint to mark special events, such as the 50 millionth car to be built. Originally, Chevrolets were intended to be high-priced cars, but Chevy ended up competing with Ford in lower-priced market. The Impala was the most expensive car Chevy made.
  
  

Features

• There was little difference, other than the paint and seats, between the standard Impalas and the Impalas used as anniversary editions. The Super Sport was a two-door coupe. It had a 327 V8 as standard, and a 409 V8 was available. This performance car could reach 60 miles per hour in 7 seconds.
