Cancer-Free Diet
- Whenever possible, choose certified organic over conventional foods to avoid harmful pesticides and hormones. Also, healthy organic soil encourages natural phytonutrient growth, which gives fruits and vegetables their rich colors and tastes.
Cruciferous vegetables are loaded with phytochemicals, which help to detoxify carcinogens (cancer-causing substances). These include bok choy, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, rutabagas, radishes, watercress and turnip greens. Get eight to 10 servings daily, and eat them raw, steamed or stir-fried in coconut oil.
Legumes---beans, lentils and split peas---are rich in fiber, which encourages waste, including excess estrogen filtered through the liver, to be eliminated from the body. Mung, adzuki and garbanzo (chickpeas) beans are the easiest to digest. Add legumes to your diet slowly to prevent excess gas. - Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that fights cancer, and tomatoes are abundant in it. While raw tomatoes are good sources, tomato sauce and paste contain the most concentrated form of lycopene.
- Raw garlic's most active compound, allicin, produces enzymes in the intestines that destroy cancer. But allicin is activated only by crushing the garlic and waiting 10 minutes, as eating it right away or cooking it does not provide the same benefits.
Onions contain the flavonoid quercetin, which inhibits the proliferation of breast cancer cells and is a powerful antioxidant that detoxifies the liver. Eat them raw or lightly cooked. - Seaweed contains lignans and minerals that help detoxify, remove radiation residue, alkalize blood, cleanse the lymphatic system and attack tumor activity. Just a small amount of seaweed will reap great rewards, so enjoy it daily in miso soup or salad.
- Omega-3 fatty acids increase oxygen in cells, which weakens cancer. The lignans they contain bind to excess estrogen, which causes some breast cancers, and flush it from the system. Flaxseed and fish oils are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acid; grind two tablespoons of the seeds or take one teaspoon of the oil daily.
- Turmeric, rosemary, oregano, ginger root, mint and parsley are helpful in cancer prevention because of their antioxidant components. Add these herbs to your soups, salads, legumes, sauces or vegetable dishes, and add mint to herbal tea.
- Eliminate unhealthy foods such as sugar, artificial sweetener, simple and refined carbohydrates (white flour, pasta and rice), processed foods, fast food, alcohol and caffeine.
Drink eight to 10 8-ounce glasses of pure water daily, get plenty of sleep, support the immune system with echinacea tea and vitamin C, and learn to breathe deeply to infuse your body with oxygen and expel toxins from your lungs.
