How to Comfort Your Sun Conure While You Are Gone
- 1). Leave a television or radio on at a low volume so that the sun conure can hear human voices throughout the day.
- 2). Change out the toys in the sun conure's cage on a weekly basis so that the bird does not get bored with them. Good toys to alternate are ropes, swings, bells and mirrors. If the sun conure becomes particularly attached to a specific toy, leave that toy in the cage at all times and rotate out the others.
- 3). Insert items that the sun conure can chew on during the day to keep it occupied. Some good items to choose are twigs from fruit trees, coconut husks and soft wood blocks available at pet supply stores.
- 4). Purchase another sun conure so that the bird will have a companion. Be sure that you have a large enough cage to accommodate both birds and keep them in separate cages for the first two to three weeks so they can adjust to one another. If you purchase a different variety of bird, check with a reputable bird seller to make sure the new bird is compatible with the sun conure.
