Front doors for your home

101 12
There are many designs for doors. Since front doors are the first point of contact with a house owner's friends and peers, it is naturally essential to give it a careful consideration. Door manufacturers may offer you many eye-catching designs. The material for the door is however the most important factor that should be considered if utility is given precedence. The primary utility of a door is to provide the residents with a sense of security and privacy, which in these days is a hot topic in social circles. A reliable and durable door is necessary for any home.

Three materials are popular choices for front doors - wood, steel and fiberglass. Each of these materials has its own unique features and this has a direct relation with the cost of the material. Whatever may its intrinsic qualities be, it is important to select a door with such material that can offer security at a lower maintenance cost to ensure you sleep well at night.

Wood

Wood is probably the most common of materials used in homes. Plywood in particular is familiar to you because of its extensive use in buildings and this brand has built a reputation that one attributes wood as "plywood" nearly all the time. Quality of the wood matters and since there are a lot of companies supplying wood  sometimes under the brand "plywood", you can never tell the difference between the quality unless the disadvantage is staring at your face. Depend upon a trusted supplier of wood. Although plywood is dead useful, it cannot be used in all weather conditions. Moisture can be easily absorbed by plywood making it unviable for people living in wet regions of the country. As its color fades quickly, it requires a regular dose of varnish to negate the fading effect. Solid wood on the other hand is heavier and therefore provides one with better security but is just as expensive and difficult to maintain as well.

Steel

This rather inexpensive material can be used as the front doors of small rooms or cabins that do not require long lasting protection. Being what it is, it is prone to structural damages and hence, paint is tarnished, unless it is reinforced with an extra sheet of steel or something heavier as it is used in commercial buildings such as entrances to factories for instance. Thick steel doors are also used in the strong rooms of banks. Front doors can also use steel doors as a secondary door with thin-wired nets to get rid of insects from entering the home while allowing light or breeze inside.

Fiberglass

Fiberglass as front doors is a new design concept. The glass used here is scratch resistant and is extremely durable and reasonably thick. The glass may have artistic works as per the homeowner's choice and requires lower maintenance. It is designed with wooden supports to give better protection.

Front doors can have a simple design like a plain door with an eyehole or a handle to knock on. The door lock should have proper and efficient bolts along with other security designs like the chain lock and padlocks. Considering all the above information, you will be able to choose a perfect front door for your home efficiently.
