How to Keep Hand Gathered Clams Fresh
- 1). Place the clams in an open container. Live clams must have a source of air, otherwise they will die.
- 2). Cover the clams with a wet cloth or paper towel to maintain their moistness.
- 3). Refrigerate clams at a temperature of between 35 and 40 degrees F. They will stay fresh for up to a week but it's best to eat them the day you harvest them.
- 4). Separate clam meat from the shell if you want to freeze it. Wrap the clams tightly and store for up to 60 days.
